‘Crab’,
Scientific Illustration

'Crab', Scientific Illustration (2016)

This is an example of the standard of detailed work I can achieve when no access to camera’s or reference other than the specimen is available.

Within Scientific and Natural History Illustration, there may be occasions where it is not permissible to take photographs, or if significant research hasn’t been made upon your required specimen to illustrate. This can be due to many factors, such as if your subject has become extinct, or is something newly discovered for example.

This particular Illustration was made from a series of sketches and notes that I took from the Natural History Museum in London, from a special collection that was not allowed to be photographed. From the specific details, I took all of my research back to the studio and rendered the final artwork in Gouache and Watercolour.
