FONDATA, The Journal of Adjacencies, Volume 1.

When the email arrived in my inbox to potentially contribute to a new publication with some of the best writers and talent involved directly and indirectly within the worlds of fine wines and spirits I was honoured to be involved. Under the experienced art direction of Alan Aboud, perhaps better know for his astounding work with Paul Smith and Guinness, and direct communication with editor Gavin Lucas author and journalist, over weeks a beautiful commission evolved.

The brief was to illustrate five wine grape varieties for editorial illustrations accompanying a piece of writing by leading grape geneticist Dr José Vouillamoz and wine writer Julia Harding MW to celebrate five lesser known grape varieties from their ‘Wine Grapes’ book (co authored with Janice Robinson MW). Working with traditional watercolour paintings and conferring with the expertise of specialist ampelographers to ensure the accuracy could be maintained in each illustration.
