THE GARDEN COLLECTION

This will be an on going collection of artworks produced for an upcoming exhibitions with the Royal Horticultural Society in England.

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) was founded in 1804 in London, England, as the Horticultural Society of London and gained it’s present name in a Royal Charter was granted in 1861. The Royal Horticultural Society is the UK’s leading gardening charity, who’s charitable purpose is to encourage and improve science, art and horticulture.

The charity promotes horticulture through flower shows such as RHS Chelsea, Hampton Court Palace and Tatton Park, it also supports training for amateur and professional gardeners.

The featured Botanical Illustration of Sea Holly, Eryngium maritimium is a striking subject matter which I have found growing on beaches in Cornwall. Because of it’s natural habitat it’s spiky bluish green leaves are designed to specifically reduce water loss.Their unusual colouring reflects the sun’s heat and their thick waxy cuticle protects them from the effects of sea spray.
